The Sharekkna MENA Internship Program offers students and recent graduates the opportunity to gain experience with Sharekkna MENA’s work. Internship opportunities are available in the MENA region. The internship is done within the External Relations and Communication Section of Sharekkna MENA. The interns report directly to the Internship program.

Sharekkna MENA Internship is done usually over 30 consecutive days. The intern will have several targets to achieve. At the end of every internship, there is a submission of a report that includes the final report, the work plan and the timesheet. The submission of complete documentation is essential for monitoring and evaluation. The internship may be exceptionally extended for a maximum period of two months. A recommendation letter and certificate of completion are awarded on the recommendation of the direct preceptor.

Interns are not financially remunerated because Sharekkna MENA is a free awareness-raising service. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation, and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions. Sharekkna MENA accepts no responsibility for the medical insurance of the intern or costs arising from injury, illness, or death that may occur during an internship.

Marketing and Communication

This internship has 2 main objectives. The first one is to write a Marketing and Communication Plan for a CSO, NGO, or Startup. The second one is to approach CSOs, NGOs, Startups, and specialists to get them on board with Sharekkna MENA. The intern will be guided through the steps of writing a marketing and communication plan and will have in hand a list of contacts, emails, phone numbers, names, or social media profiles who have shown interest to join Sharekkna MENA. The learning outcome includes basic strategic planning, time management, and communication skills.

The Fight Against COVID-19 Misinformation and Rumors

“We’re not just fighting an epidemic; we’re fighting an infodemic,” said Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO)

Sharekkna MENA calls on journalists and media students, graduates and volunteering-oriented people, to join in producing impactful content to help fight against the “Infodemic” of misinformation and rumours that have hampered efforts to stop the spread of COVID-19.

The main task for this internship is to collect 60-second videos from experts with Covid-19 and its vaccine. The Intern will have in hand a list of contacts, emails, phone numbers, names, or social media profiles who might be helpful in this. The objective is to make sure people who watch Sharekkna MENA online have the best, most credible information from examples of cooperation and viral acts of humanity.

Project Management Support

In today’s dynamic world, organised and effective project management is the key to success for most CSOs, NGOs and Startups. Sharekkna MENA has launched projects such as the #60secondrecipe, the YES! I tested positive, and the #SharekknaTheSkills. Project management is an important section where students and fresh graduates can practice a broad comprehension of the most important concepts in project management, under the supervision of an expert team. During this internship, interns will put in place a project plan and implement it with the support of their preceptor. They will gain the basic knowledge needed to successfully plan, implement and manage projects.

Education

Applicants need to be:

  • Enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program.
  • Computer literate.
  • Interactive with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs.
  • Applicants are not required to have professional work experience.

Members on board Orientation – Considers all those to whom Sharekkna MENA services are provided to be “members on board” and seeks to see things from members on board’s point of view; establishes and maintains productive contact with “members on board” by gaining their trust and respect; identifies “members on board’s” needs and matches them to appropriate solutions; monitors ongoing developments inside and outside the environment to keep informed and anticipate problems.

Creativity – Actively seeks to improve the service; offers new and different options to solve problems; promotes and persuades “members on board” to consider new ideas; thinks “outside the box”; is not bound by current thinking or traditional approaches.

To be able to join Sharekkna Internship Program, the intern has to:

  • Be enrolled at least in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor’s level or equivalent).
  • OR Have graduated with a university degree.
  • Be computer literate in standard software applications, in particular Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

 

Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in this internship program. You can apply for an internship with Sharekkna if you are specializing in any field. Arabic, English and French are the working languages of Sharekkna.

As an intern with Sharekkna MENA, you get a chance to work side by side with professionals and get a pretty good idea of what an entry-level role might entail. You’ll not only gain real work experience, but also meet and learn from the pros. And you’ll start to build your own network.

 

One equally important benefit of an internship with Sharekkna MENA is the chance to figure out what you don’t want to do. It’s often difficult to know where to even start when it comes to job searching. We will give you the chance to try a few things out without committing. If you’re lucky, you’ll find something you love.

As internships have gotten more and more common, employers expect to see them on your resumes. Once you submit your final internship documents, your preceptor from the Sharekkna Internship Program will provide you with a detailed recommendation letter that mentions all that you did.
The recommendation letter will be based on your submitted final documents.
Interns are free to request the addition of information within their letter, based on their employment needs.
MEPI students also receive an additional Certificate of Completion with the total number of hours they rotated.
Sharekkna MENA is also open to providing any document that supports the recruitment of the intern anywhere in the world.

Interns are not financially remunerated because Sharekkna is a free service for community awareness. Costs and arrangements for travel, visas, accommodation and living expenses are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions. Sharekkna accepts no responsibility for the medical insurance of the intern or costs arising from injury, illness or death that may occur during an internship.

In theory, unpaid internships are mostly learning rather than work experiences. At Sharekkna MENA, there are no employees. Everyone is a volunteer. It’s OK for non-profit organization to have unpaid interns who volunteer without expectation of compensation.
